Any creative professional is familiar with the struggle of creative burnout. After weeks, months, or years of creating new content nonstop, you may find it difficult to come up with unique ideas. However, you are not alone in feeling that way. Many vloggers, filmmakers, and other content creators find it necessary to pause and take a step back to help themselves recover from creative burnout.
Here are a few ways to overcome creative burnout.
1. Set clear boundaries between your work life and your personal life.
As a vlogger, it’s so easy to bring your camera along so that your audience can follow you wherever you go. Many YouTubers vlog their vacations, family events, and day-to-day lives. While inviting your audience into your personal life helps strengthen your connection with them, it can also put a lot of unnecessary pressure on you. You shouldn’t feel the need to “keep up appearances” or be entertaining when you’re just trying to get ready for the day.
Instead, be more definitive about what you will and won’t share on social media throughout the day. Plan specific trips or outings to vlog, but also schedule days when you leave the camera at home. Setting clear boundaries between your work life and your personal life will help you get the rest you need to overcome creative burnout.
2. Get out of your element.
Sometimes, all it takes to get out of a creative funk is getting your brain to work in a different way. Set aside the camera and pick up a paintbrush instead. Rather than a script, write a short story or a poem. Try something you haven’t done before.

3. Change up your upload schedule or content style.
To overcome creative burnout, challenge yourself to do the same thing in a new way. Change up your upload schedule from every Monday to every Saturday and Tuesday. Try filming with a different lens or learning about a new editing software. You can even go so far as to change up your content style, filming the kind of video you’ve always secretly wanted to try.
