How This YouTuber Became a Viral Beauty Queen

Miami native Kathleen Fuentes probably couldn’t imagine all the attention she would soon receive when she started her beauty channel on YouTube in 2013. But now with nearly 3 million subscribers and business deals with ColourPop, Makeup Geek, and more, her success story is one to be admired, and closely studied. How did she transform herself from a small-time makeup enthusiast into the viral beauty queen, KathleenLights?

This is how she did it.

1. She offers affordable alternatives.

Sure, there are a lot of people on the internet can do beautiful things with makeup and tools that cost an exorbitant amount of money, but how many can do the same look using things they bought at a CVS? By using makeup that the majority of people can actually afford, Kathleen widens her potential fan base, which in turn gives her more views.

2. Her channel isn’t all business.

Kathleen has set herself apart by getting a little personal and showing fans what her everyday life is like when she’s not doing her makeup. Her room tours and even guest appearances by her husband have proved especially popular, because it reminds her audience that she’s not this beauty guru, but actually just a 25-year-old girl who’s having fun with her hobby.

3. She speaks her mind.

If you’ve ever heard the saying “if don’t have anything nice to say, you shouldn’t say anything at all,” it doesn’t apply here. Some of Kathleen’s most viewed videos have been the ones in which she criticizes products, and she doesn’t hold back. The titles of her videos in particular, beginning with “Disappointing Products…” immediately grab the viewer’s attention, and make them want to know exactly why they were so disappointing.

KathleenLights has been going strong for four years now and has served as an inspiration to all beauty enthusiasts looking to be seen. Try out some of these tips in your own channel, and you may just be the next big YouTube star.
