How This Hip Hop Duo Came To Fame

Since 2013, this hip hop duo has been trying to make their way to the top of the charts. Through struggle, hard-work, and dedication, the two have managed to accomplish their dream this past year. Their most recent single has topped the charts for weeks.

Here is how Rae Sremmurd has made it to the top of the music industry.

1. Plan a tour to bring your music to new places.

In 2013, Rae Sremmurd was not touring under their current name. The two artists who are a part of the group were then a part of a group with more artists. Touring under the name Dem Outta St8 Boyz, they were getting recognized on television and by some record companies, though it didn’t produce any record deals.

This is one of their most recent touring schedules.

2. When your current plan isn’t working, try something new.

Under the name Dem Outta St8 Boyz, the group was not receiving any record deals. A few of the members left, leaving it to the current two members to keep their dream alive. They changed their name, signed to a smaller company, and continued to try different styles of hip hop. With EarDrummers Ent., Rae Sremmurd practiced their craft for a year.

3. Release a single for radio play.

The first song that made it to the radio was a single called “No Flex Zone.” While it didn’t top the charts, it got the band noticed by other record companies and music superstars. The duo realized that their single was just the start of something great, and they worked on releasing an album before the year was over.

The first single, “No Flex Zone,” is shown below.

4. Participate in social media trends to get noticed.

“Black Beatles,” from the band’s second album, has hundreds of millions of views on YouTube due to an internet challenge. The mannequin challenge has everyone holding any pose they would like for the first few moments of the song before the beat drops. The group did not start the trend, but they have joined in, and their fanbase has grown exponentially because of the challenge.

5. Collaborate with other artists to make better connections.

Artists such as Gucci Mane, Kodak Black, and Nicki Minaj have chosen to collaborate with the group. Many of those singles have made it to the top ten charts. The artists have been nominated for awards two years in a row for their collaborations. The connections have earned them a spot in the hip hop as the best group of 2015, according to BET and its audience.

“Real Chill” by Rae Sremmurd and Kodak Black was released this week.

Rae Sremmurd is still scheduled to tour in 2017, but they are also planning to make more music this year. Their story is different than most in how they were signed, but there is something to learn from their story: make a plan, take action, make it happen.
