HAIM is a band composed of sisters Este, Danielle, and Alana Haim, along with drummer Dash Hutton. The band is currently working on their second album. Their first album charted in the top ten in numerous countries and their music has been used in many blockbuster films such as The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Insurgent, and Paper Towns.
HAIM’s uniqueness has truly set them apart from the rest of the music industry. Here are a few ways that budding musicians can follow in their footsteps:
1. Start by performing as much as possible.
HAIM began with the three sisters performing at almost every available occasion; they began with free community and benefit shows, including a performance at a Jewish deli where they were literally paid with matzah ball soup.
When beginning a music career, take any and all chances to perform and get your music out there.
2. Stay true to your vision.
Danielle Haim actually performed with CeeLo Green in the early stages of her career and he ended up offering her an extremely lucrative tour deal. However, she decided to stick with her own music, her own performance style, and perform with her sisters, as she’d always wanted to do.
Do not let offers of money or power stop you from staying true to your vision and how you want your music to be.
3. Create a unique sound.
HAIM’s unique pop-rock sound is unlike that of any other musician today. When creating music, find a sound that stands out from the crowd. Try to create something that people haven’t heard before.
HAIM’s inimitable sound and adherence to their original vision has helped them thrive and succeed in the music industry.
