A YouTube challenge is a viral Internet challenge.
Over the years, many YouTube challenges have gone viral and engaged viewers all over the world. The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge is one example.
Check out these four lessons you can learn from viral YouTube challenges!
1. The Accent Challenge
The Accent Challenge (or Accent Tag) has been going on for many years across all kinds of social media platforms. This challenge prompts vloggers to answer questions and read specific words to showcase their accent. This challenge has become extremely popular because there are so many different accents, and people from all over the world have participated. It has connected the world and has given us insight into how people from different countries speak.
Post a video of yourself doing the accent challenge to show your viewers where you come from!

2. The Cinnamon Challenge
The Cinnamon Challenge is both iconic and notorious, and it is also known for having spread around the Internet like wildfire. In the Cinnamon Challenge, the challenger simply swallows a spoonful of cinnamon! This challenge SEEMS easy, but it is actually very difficult, and viewers enjoy watching the dramatic responses that this challenge elicits.
The YouTubers who take on this challenge show viewers that they’re not afraid to have fun and even do something a little crazy! Give this challenge a try if you’d like, but do NOT force yourself to do it!
Take a look at the YouTuber GloZell Green’s Cinnamon Challenge (in which she swallowed WAY more cinnamon than she had to!).
3. The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge
The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge gained massive popularity in the summer of 2014. This challenge was started as a campaign to raise money and awareness for ALS (which is also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease). People who participated in this challenge pledged to donate money, dumped a bucket of ice water over their heads, and challenged three other people to participate.
This challenge was truly fantastic because it raised a huge amount of money and awareness for a great cause. Participating in a charity-based challenge is always a great idea because you can help make the world a better place! Challenging other friends to participate in a challenge is also smart because it helps you connect with your fellow YouTubers.
The Ice Bucket Challenge was so popular that many celebrities participated! Here is actor Chris Evans’ Ice Bucket Challenge.
4. The Karaoke Challenge
Lastly, the Karaoke Challenge is a fun and exciting challenge especially for musicians, or for anyone who just likes to sing! The Karaoke Challenge usually involves at least two people, and one person will play songs while the other person has to try to sing the correct lyrics. Of course, the challengers make a lot of mistakes with this, but it just adds to the fun! This challenge is great for YouTubers because, once again, it shows viewers that you’re fun and you’re not afraid of looking ridiculous!
The YouTuber Brandon Papo did the Karaoke Challenge with his friend India Carney, who also happened to be one of the final contestants on season 8 of The Voice. Brandon’s video was both entertaining and featured a famous musician, and both of these things undoubtedly increased the video’s popularity.
Since challenges are so popular and so much fun to watch, posting your own challenge videos will certainly draw in viewers! If you participate in challenges such as the Accent Challenge, the Cinnamon Challenge, the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, and the Karaoke Challenge, you’ll be able to connect to your online community and find success on YouTube!
