Find a particularly funny or interesting part of an older video, then edit it down. While TikTok does allow videos to be up to a minute long, shorter videos tend to perform the best.
Before uploading, watch the standalone clip a few times. You want to make sure it still works without the context of the entire video. If you’re not sure, show it to a friend for a second opinion. Finally, upload it as a TikTok or an Instagram Reel. Be sure to include relevant hashtags in your caption so the video will reach more people.

Stylized as #tbt, “Throwback Thursday” has become a popular and long-standing trend on Instagram. All kinds of different users like to post older photos with the hashtag #tbt as a way to share their memories with their followers. Even influencers enjoy getting in on the trend.
As a YouTuber, you should use the #tbt hashtag to share behind-the-scenes shots from older videos. It might be a selfie you took with a favorite collab partner, a group photo with the crew of your last major project, or a reference picture you used as inspiration during a video shoot. You might also share moments that didn’t make it into the final video. Whenever you post a throwback picture from a video, be sure to include the video link in your caption.
If you can’t think of any video-related throwback pictures to use, look for snaps you never shared from a YouTube-related event. You could even ask friends who attended a convention, product launch, etc. with you if they have any group shots they didn’t post. Longtime fans will love the nostalgia, and more recent subscribers will be interested in going back to watch videos they’ve missed. You could post some of your favorite clips, or you could get really creative.
To make your celebration just as much fun for you as it is for your followers, film yourself reacting to your first upload. You might even ask your partner, your best friend, or a family member to be in the reaction video with you. Alternatively, you could create polls asking viewers what series you should bring back or which video they’d like to see you recreate.
You don’t have to reserve all the nostalgia for your channel anniversary. Create similar stories the next time your channel reaches a significant milestone, such as earning a YouTube play button or hitting a million subscribers. Then, add all of those story posts to a new highlight on your profile.
Nostalgia can drive traffic from longtime viewers to your channel, but throwbacks can also catch the attention of new fans. Recycling your old YouTube content onto new platforms is a fun and easy way to promote your channel without creating something from scratch.
