Instrument? Check. Car keys? Check. Sunglasses? Check.
But wait! Before you walk out the door, here are eight things you should never forget to take to a gig.
1. Pocket Multi-tool
You never know when you might need to make a quick repair. Having a miniature toolkit will make sure that you never have to worry.
2. Extra Cords
Cords, whether bought from a high-end website or the bargain bin, are always at risk for shorting out. Having extras on hand will ensure that the show can go on. Keep an extra cord in your instrument case for emergencies.
3. A Roll of Neon Duct Tape
The next worse thing to breaking your instrument would be breaking a leg. Marking cords with neon duct tape will help you to see them in the semi-darkness.
4. Earplugs
As a musician, the last thing you want to lose is your hearing. Earplugs will protect you from high decibels that could damage your eardrums.
5. Small Towel
If you accidentally knock your water bottle over onto your brand new $300 amp, you’re going to wish you had something to clean it up with rather quickly. Keeping a small towel on hand will help prevent mishaps.
6. Business Cards
You never know who might show up at your gig! Bring along a stack of business cards so that you don’t miss an important networking opportunity. Keep a few in your pocket or instrument case.
7. $20 Cash
Don’t get caught being unable to pay for parking outside your own gig. You may end up somewhere far from an ATM, in desperate need of a water bottle in between songs. Having a bit of cash will provide cushion for these little bumps in the road. Keep a few small bills with your business cards. A small coin pouch might be a good idea.
8. Spare Batteries
Don’t let your gadgets die mid-set. Keeping spare batteries on hand will keep your equipment gig-ready.
Missteps and mishaps at your gigs are unavoidable. However, with the proper tools in your arsenal, you can be ready to breeze through and rock out.
