Include a Face: Thumbnails with faces get higher views. Close up images of a person’s face are the best at drawing attention.

Include Bright & Contrasting Colors: Bright and contrasting colors make your thumbnail standout. It draws the viewer’s attention to your video. Also, videos with a yellow background have a higher click rate than any other color.

Include Text Only When Necessary: If your including text, keep it from 3 to 6 words. Make sure the text size is large enough that it can be read on the thumbnail. However, only use text if it is absolutely necessary. The text should only be use to clarify, or to entice people to click on your video.
