It’s hard to believe that 2015 is almost coming to an end. Looking back, was this year what you wanted it to be? Maybe you could’ve played more shows, or recorded more music. There is always something that could use improvement. With 2016 quickly approaching, here are 3 New Year’s resolutions all musicians should make.
Learn About The Music Business: You may be an expert guitar player, but that doesn’t mean you should only know how to play the guitar. Take some time to learn about the music business – marketing, booking shows, etc. This knowledge will come in handy in the long run. If you learn how to book a show, you won’t have to hire someone to do that. You will be able to do it yourself, which will save money. Plus, a little extra knowledge never hurt anybody.
Network More: The right connections can help catapult your career to the next level. Put yourself out there and take advantage of networking events. Try to meet as many people that are involved in the music industry – from label executives to music bloggers. A lot of the times, its not what you know, but who you know.
Take More Risks: The great thing about New Year’s resolutions is that you set goals to improve yourself. That being said – take more risks. This can be something as simple as trying different styles of music, to going on your first tour. You have an entire year – go for it!
Make sure that you make this New Year more productive than the last. “The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year’s Day” – Edith Lovejoy Pierce
