Clay Aiken was one of the first major names to arise from American Idol. He came in second on the hit show’s second season in 2003. Following the season finale, he was offered a recording contract with RCA.

Clay’s debut album, Measure of a Man, was certified multi-platinum.

Aside from releasing three more successful albums, Clay wrote Learning to Sing: Hearing the Music in Your Life with Allison Glock. His book became a New York Times bestseller.

Clay has also been an executive producer, an actor, and a UNICEF ambassador. He made his Broadway debut in 2008.

3. He used his platform to support causes he cared about.

In 2014, Clay decided to run for Congress. He announced his run in North Carolina’s second congressional district. Though he lost to the Republican incumbent, he was able to share what he cared about with the people of his community.
