At only sixteen years old, Charli D’Amelio is the most-followed person on TikTok. She built such a massive fanbase through participating in a ton of trends on the app, mostly dance-related ones. She first rose to fame by participating in the viral “Renegade” dance trend.
Like TikTok, YouTube has a lot of its own trends. For example, the cinnamon challenge, the hundred layer challenge, and the “roast yourself” tag were all incredibly popular trends. No matter what your content niche is, you can grow your audience by adapting viral trends to fit your channel’s personal style.
Like Addison Rae, you should take on projects outside of content creation.
Similar to Charli D’Amelio, Addison Rae also rose to TikTok fame by creating dance videos. However, unlike a lot of TikTok stars, she’s pursued a lot of career opportunities outside of the app. She’s branched out into music and acting. She’s also created a podcast and her own makeup line.
By taking on projects that aren’t directly related to TikTok, Addison has established streams of revenue and career opportunities that will continue after TikTok’s popularity fades away. Likewise, you should pursue opportunities outside of YouTube. You might start an online clothing brand, get into directing, or start freelance editing.
Like Bella Poarch, you should remain true to the content you built your platform on.
You probably know Bella Poarch from the incredibly viral TikTok lip-syncing to “M to the B.” The head-bobbing movements she did in that video became her trademark move, and she continues to use them in her videos. Even as her audience grows, she hasn’t strayed very far from the style of video that made her famous.
This approach works so well for Bella Poarch because she continues giving her audience the kind of content they followed her for. Similarly, even if you change up your style, your channel should stay true to the content you built your platform on. You might make that kind of content less often than you used to, but doing a complete 180 could alienate a good chunk of your core audience.
Becoming a top TikTok star takes more than just dancing skills. Study the career moves these new influencers are making and determine how you can apply their strategies to your own content creation.
