Este, Danielle, and Alana Haim have been playing music together far longer than they’ve been performing it. The three California-based sisters tour the world together as HAIM, a pop rock band with a second album that just dropped.
Here’s how HAIM became a successful band.
1. They played in several bands together before forming their own.
Este, Danielle, and Alana got their start in a family band. When they were growing up, they played in Rockinhaim, a cover band fronted by their parents. The girls performed with the group Valli Girls in 2005 until forming HAIM in 2007. However, it wasn’t until a few years later that they began to seriously consider their band as a career.
2. They reformed after one member found success as a touring musician.
Danielle was the first Haim sister to make music her career. She found success as a touring musician, playing with acts such as Jenny Lewis and Julian Casablancas. Danielle and her sisters decided to officially reform their own band in 2012.
3. The group promoted its first release at a major festival.
HAIM’s first official release was a limited-time download EP called Forever. After promoting the EP at the SXSW music festival, HAIM landed deals with Polydor Records and Jay-Z’s Roc Nation. Their next move was to promote their debut album at the Glastonbury Festival in the UK.
HAIM’s second album, Something To Tell You, was released in July of 2017. Now, the Haim sisters are planning major shows and interviews to help promote their new project.
