How This Country Sweetheart Got Her First Grammy Nomination

Artists like Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood paved the way for a new kind of country music. Instead of lovelorn men pouring out their heartbreak over a beer, many young women are taking over the country radio waves with sweet songs about the happy aspects of love and romance.

Singer-songwriter Kelsea Ballerini is the new girl on the block in Nashville, but she’s already taking country by storm. She even landed a nomination at the 2017 Grammys for Best New Artist.

Here’s how country sweetheart Kelsea Ballerini got her first Grammy nomination.

1. She made a music career her main priority from the get-go.

Kelsea was only twelve when she wrote her first song. She moved to Nashville when she was fifteen. She attended Lipscomb University. However, she dropped out of college to pursue a music career, signing with Black River Entertainment at only nineteen.

She dropped her debut single “Love Me Like You Mean It” in 2014.

2. She released several successful singles from the same album.

“Love Me Like You Mean It” was only the first hit from Kelsea’s self-titled extended play. After the success of that song lead to a performance in the Grand Ole Opry, Kelsea got her second hit single with “Dibs.”

The third hit from the album, “Peter Pan,” made Kelsea the first female single artist to go number one with her first three singles since Wynonna Judd.

3. She continues to put out award-worthy music.

Though Kelsea didn’t win the Grammy that she was nominated for, she didn’t let the setback stall her career. Rather, she took right to the studio to start work on her next studio album.

The first single from her new album dropped last week.

Kelsea Ballerini caught the attention of the Grammy Awards by making music her main priority. However, she didn’t let a loss set her back, and she’ll certainly reap the benefits at the 2018 Grammy Awards.
