Fake pranks have been a plague on YouTube for years, and it’s become easier and easier for people to tell the difference between the real ones and the fake ones. A fake prank is just a video portraying a prank, but every involved party is in on it including the victim. Some YouTubers have called out the faux-pranksters, but their success continues.
Here’s how any YouTuber can benefit from fake pranks.
1. Create fake prank videos and pretend they’re real.
As long as the majority of YouTube’s demographic is below the age of fifteen, fake pranks will have a gullible audience. There’s no real harm to performing fake pranks and pretending they really happened or really worked, so long as they don’t encourage dangerous behaviors or mindsets.
2. Create a video exposing fake pranks.
If the premise seems unlikely or irresponsible, it’s fake. All it takes is a minute of sleuthing, and anyone can expose a fake prank for what it is. These videos exposing pranks are similarly a dime a dozen, but they still do pretty well. Bonus points if the video exploits negative social trends, such as racism (i.e. pranks ‘in the hood’).
3. Pull a prank so crazy that it seems fake.
Why not go against the fake prank phenomenon completely by making a video so ridiculously amazing that viewers can’t help but think it might be fake? This video will take a lot of planning and preparation, but you can one-up both the fake prank channels and the drama channels by proving that you’re the real deal.
Fake pranks are stupid, but they definitely make a ton of people successful on YouTube. It’s definitely worth trying if all else fails.
