Collin Duddy and Julien Solomita are Waffsicle, a brand new channel with one main focus: going on completely spur of the moment adventures. Despite being less than a year old, they already have over 100,000 subscribers.
Here’s how they’re growing so quickly.
1. They are YouTube veterans.
Several large YouTube channels have secondary channels, often devoted to gaming or vlogging. While they may be following in the footsteps of the pioneers of the “secondary-channelers,” the premise of this second channel is unconventional. It is devoted entirely to one series. It’s also a collaborative effort of two YouTubers rather than just the side project of one.
2. The premise is exciting and intriguing.
They throw a dart at a map of the US and take a road trip to wherever it lands. The concept is something often romanticized by the working stiff. However, it is entirely achievable. The randomness of the selection process leads to a lot of trailblazing. The American road trip is a unique experience, and it’s inspiring to see two people take this approach.
3. The cinematography is gorgeous.
Waffsicle’s experience in filmmaking leads to a lot of beautiful shots. Even with the sound off these videos are worth watching, which says a lot about the effort they put into getting establishing shots and editing the footage. It’s undeniably reminiscent of Casey Neistat, but it’s like if Casey made a couple twenty-minute long videos with mostly drone footage.
Duddy and Solomita take their extensive knowledge to a new experience. The effort they put into the videos paired with the simplicity of the concept make this series approachable and entertaining. Creating a concept that is repeatable by people at home is a great way to get followers.
