Many musicians know how to play at least one instrument. Some may be better with acoustic guitars, and some may prefer drums. However, the piano is an invaluable skill to have, especially for singer/songwriters.
Here are three reasons why ever musician should learn to play the piano.
1. It teaches you how to harmonize.
All pianists are taught to know major and minor key scales. Scales are combinations of compatible key notes. Learning scales not only helps you understand your keyboard, but it also lays a foundation when composing your own music.
Additionally, a scale is a harmony principle for all musicians. If you know scales, you can most definitely harmonize.
2. It shows you which different melodies go well together.
Unlike a guitar or a violin, all musical notes are already laid out for you on a piano. Pianos allow musicians to explore all the possible melodies easier and more efficiently. You can combine and create unique sounds by just pressing on the black and white tiles.

3. It is the most efficient tool used for music production.
The idea of learning classical piano and scales might bore you, but more and more people are composing and producing music using electronic pianos. Not only do you still get the perfect notes on the keyboard, but you can also cut, mix, trim, crop, and embellish notes on an electronic board. The digital instrument includes drum beats and converting abilities; it can mimic any sound you may need for a song!

Learning how to play an instrument is a must-have skill. The piano is a great starting point for any serious artist.
