After 162 regular season games, playoff baseball is ready to begin. Think you’re Mr. or Ms. October? Rather than follow teams on their race to the World Series, be the source viewers go to when they want the updates on postseason baseball.
While many believe that popularity in baseball is declining, the numbers say otherwise. Tuesday’s AL Wild Card game between Toronto and Baltimore held a higher viewer rating than CNN’s coverage of the Vice Presidential Debate did. Whether this is concerning or exciting depends on the viewers.
Respectively, Wednesday night’s NL Wild Card game between the San Francisco Giants and the New York Mets broke previous streaming records for a wild card game.
If a sports Youtube channel has slept on the MLB for the past year, now is the time to become invested. Here’s why.
1. It’s current.
The outcome of the games has not yet been decided. This makes viewers invested in different vloggers’ takes on certain series. Viewers gravitate towards vloggers with a general knowledge of the game, but if a vlogger can speak about the game with excitement, he’s won half the battle.
Make a bold prediction and see what happens.
2. There is drama.
The pitcher’s duel between Noah Syndergaard and Madison Bumgarner has already become a thing of baseball legend. Two incredible athletes faced off against each other, pitching nearly perfectly until Syndergaard was removed from the game. Enter Conor Gillaspie with a few runners on base in the ninth inning. There was a home run shot, eliminating the Mets and continuing the Giants’ season.
The “do or die” element raises the stakes as teams move into the postseason.
3. It’s personal.
There are millions of baseball fans around the country and internationally. People want to feel part of something larger than themselves, and dedicated fanbases always have something to say about their team.
Take part in that conversation and interact with legions of fans.
Baseball is a great tradition, and there is no better time to get into it than fall. Autumn is in the air, and bandwagon fans start coming out of the woodwork. Feel no shame about hopping on board. Baseball fever is growing across the nation.
