DJ Khaled’s newest music video for his song “I’m The One” is a massive success. After just one week, it already has over 90 million views.
Here’s why “I’m The One” did so well.
1. It’s dripping with DJ Khaled flavor.
DJ Khaled is a character, often referred to as a “living meme.” His antics are repetitive yet addicting. The video is doused in Khaled-esque motifs, such as a well-kept garden, drinking his brand of bubbly by the pool, excessive branding, and rubbing hands together.
Anyone who appreciates Khaled for all he is will appreciate his creative influence on this video.
2. The features are ridiculous.
What do you get when you feature Justin Bieber, Quavo, Chance The Rapper, and Lil’ Wayne in your music video? A roaring success, of course.
Khaled is generous and gives them all some face time with the camera, and in return, he gets one of the most popular videos on YouTube this week.
3. It’s goofy.
Bieber can’t even keep a straight face in this video. All the artists are cracking smiles while doing the silliest dance routines. The thought going through their minds has to be, “what is Khaled having me do?”
It works, though, because they all seem to be having a good time, and that’s certainly the most important thing.
DJ Khaled’s entry into success seems strange. Aside from talent, his continuing fame is certainly due to only a few key things: consistency, cameos, and not taking things too seriously.
