The Helpful Habits Every Vlogger Should Develop

As a vlogger, you’re fully in control of every video you make, from conception to completion. However, as the saying goes, with great power comes great responsibility. Many content creators struggle to balance their time, and their upload schedules, video quality, or audience engagement are sacrificed in the process. You can ensure your videos are always high-quality by improving your efficiency.

Here are the helpful habits every vlogger should develop.

1. Always keep an extra camera battery charged.

Filming a video can require a lot of different equipment, but the most important thing is, of course, your camera. However, it may be easy to forget about the most important part of the camera — the battery! If the battery dies, then you could lose your footage, and you’ll have to wait a long time for it to charge.

Therefore, you should make it a habit to always keep an extra camera battery charged. If you don’t have a second battery, then you should invest in one soon. Then, whenever the battery in your camera starts to die, you can switch them out without losing any time.

2. Export and organize your video files as soon as you’re finished filming.

Another huge time waster for creators is digging through unorganized files as you edit a video. You can avoid this headache by simply organizing your footage. Create a folder on your desktop for each new video. Then, insert your camera’s SD card into your computer or upload the footage from your phone and drop it into that folder. Finally, label each file. If you want, you can further organize them, breaking down each folder by angle, location, etc. Then, all you’ll have to do is upload that entire folder into your editing software.

Ideally, you should organize your files as soon as you’re finished filming. It’s better than letting your SD card get too full, which could delay you if you decide to film another video on the same card. By exporting and organizing your footage ASAP, you’ll make things easier for yourself in the future.

3. Engage with your audience after posting on any platform.

After you post online, no matter what platform, your first instinct should be to engage with your audience. You should be liking comments, replying to fans, and answering questions. This immediate engagement will build the community around your channel and get your content in front of more users’ eyes.

If you aren’t engaging with your audience immediately after making any kind of post, then you should work to make it a habit. You might start by setting a tangible goal, such as liking twenty replies or spending ten minutes after each post in conversation with your followers. After a few weeks, it will start to feel like a natural impulse.

4. Film all your videos at the same time of day.

You might not usually think about the time of day you’re filming. However, the later in the day you film, the more difficult it will be to light your videos. Windows can be a great source of natural light, but the ever-changing shadows can alter the overall look of your video. Then, you have to move around your lights every time you film.

The easy fix in this situation is to film at the same time of day. For example, if you film on Fridays, then start filming on Fridays at noon. If you don’t have set filming days, then you should establish that schedule now.

As a vlogger, the habits you develop can either help your career or hinder it. Make sure you’re implementing beneficial habits into your daily routine.
