Celine Dion – From Streets to Stardom

Celine Dion was the youngest of 14 children and grew up in a low-income household. She learned to sing at her parents’ piano bar, and helped her father earn a measly $160 a week to support his 16-member family.

Her big break came when she and her family sent a self-composed song to music manager Rene Angelil. Rene Angelil was moved to tears by her voice and decided to mortgage his house to produce her first record, which later became a local number-one hit and made Dion an instant star in Quebec.

Dion remains the best-selling Canadian artist in history and one of the best-selling artists of all time with record sales of more than 200 million copies worldwide.
