How To Brainstorm A Lot Of Video Ideas At Once

Every good video starts with a great idea. However, coming up with all those great ideas is a whole other ball game. That’s where brainstorming comes in handy, helping you generate lots of ideas in one sitting.

Here’s how to brainstorm video ideas your audience will love.

1. Try free writing for ten minutes.

When you free write, you allow yourself to write whatever comes to mind for a set amount of time. You let your unfiltered thoughts pour out onto the page without holding back.

Get out a piece of paper or pull up a blank word document on your computer. Set a timer for ten minutes and just write. Write about what you’re feeling, what you’re interested in, or just whatever comes to mind.

When you’re done, set it aside for a while. Come back to what you wrote an hour or even a day later. Read what you wrote, scanning for potential video ideas.

2. Modify ideas you’ve already used.

There’s a reason that the videos you’ve already posted are successful. Perhaps you gained a lot of subscribers after posting a certain video, or maybe your views spiked after you began uploading a certain kind of content. You can use these videos as a starting point to make more successful ones.

Make a list of the videos your subscribers loved the most. Look at the ones with the most views, comments, or new subscribers. Then, try to mush those ideas together. Modify them. Change two words in every title, then switch them around.

The ideas this exercise generates may seem silly at first, but once you’ve got your thoughts going in the right direction, you’ll be able to come up with videos ideas that build on successful videos you’ve already made.

3. Get out a whiteboard and a timer.

You’ve probably seen it in half a dozen movies. When it’s time to create a master plan, the characters get out a whiteboard and a marker and come up with the most convoluted scheme they can think of. This kind of brainstorming can help you come up with video ideas, too.

Get out a whiteboard, a chalkboard, or some sticky notes. Then, set a timer and challenge yourself to write down as many video ideas as you can in five minutes. Repeat this exercise as many times as you’d like.

Brainstorming like this gets your mind working fast. You’ll have a lot of interesting video ideas, and even if they’re not particularly good, you’ll still have somewhere to start.

Brainstorming is a fun and challenging way to come up with new video ideas quickly. Next time you’re stuck for content, test out one of these brainstorming exercises.
